Literacy Week at the Foundation Stage

The goals of “The Literacy Week” in the Foundation Stage were to promote literacy throughout the section, by raising awareness through activities and field trips, and most of all, to promote the enjoyment of reading for children.

The Literacy week, was celebrated at AAPS from 31st January to 4th February 2010.

The exciting activities to promote reading were “Jump a Thon” with a slogan and “Hats off to Reading”.

The fancy hats worn by students, was a treat to the eyes and well appreciated by all of us at school. (Thank you to the ‘mothers’ for the effort put in making them.)

The student with the best hat was awarded with a special book at the end of the day.

An assembly presentation where children did picture reading and narrated fairy tales added to the excitement of the week.

Read to the Head of Section’ was a super hit with the students!

Other activities included making bookmarks, outdoor read aloud sessions, treasure hunt for alphabets, etc.

The most exciting working day was the Chef’s Day. Dressed in chef attires, the children learnt the various areas of learning by linking them to a five course meal.  They learnt table manners and new vocabulary used in ordering a meal.

The crowning glory of the week was the visit to the Al Rawabi Farm. The children returned enriched by the experience of seeing the large number of cows and most of all they were amazed to see that every calf had its individual shed.
