Principal's message to the newly inducted members of the Student Council

The idea or mission behind creating the student council is

These ideologies have been instrumental in developing the leadership team from among our students and we have this prestigious prefectorial body with us today.
This year we have added a new designation as compared to last year – ‘The Environmental Ambassador’. Environment is undoubtedly a global concern in today’s world. We at Al Ameen will champion this cause to the best of our time and ability. The ambassadors on the stage may look tiny, but the essays which wrote on ‘why he/she would be the best representative of his/her class’ was indeed impressive.

Dear students of the student council, you need to remember the intention with which we have inducted you into the student council. Your specific duties will be handed over to you by the HoS. Yet, leadership is a continuum, not a one off event. It should be demonstrated in all that you say and all that you do. I am not talking of being overbearing or domineering or even proud. These are the negative traits of leadership. What makes a good leader?
A person who is a good leader sets an example for the others through the exercise of certain virtues
Virtue 1: Ethics
Ethical behavior is the cornerstone of effective leadership. If you practice ethical behavior, you should feel free to put a stop to idle talk. The truth will set you free and allow you to earn respect at the same time.
Virtue 2: Self-Control
A good leader has self-control. They go by the rules, whether they agree with them or not. It is impossible to enforce rules if you are prone to break them yourself.
Virtue 3: Diligence
Diligence is the opposite of lazy. To be a good leader, you have to work hard. A good leader "walks the talk"
Virtue 4: Humility
Humility is a virtue that many leaders do not have, which makes them extremely ineffective. Humbleness is the ability not to take excessive pride in your position. You have heard the old saying, "His position went to his head." When practicing humility, a good leader portrays that they are not any better than anyone else. They give credit where credit due and respect their peers which in turn results in respect for themselves as a good leader.
These personal characteristics are foundational to good leadership. Some characteristics may be more naturally present in the personality of a leader. However, each of these characteristics can also be developed and strengthened.

A good leader whether they naturally possess these qualities or not, will be diligent to consistently develop and strengthen them in their leadership role.

I wish you good luck in your new designations. All the best!
